During the life of your Goff's door, you will need to periodically inspect the door and door curtain for excessive wear, and/or broken or missing parts.
-
The most common cause of failure and shortened life is due to improper maintenance/service, which can be avoided by conducting periodic (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, etc.) visual inspections. Following the inspections, it is crucial to repair or replace all damaged components in a timely manner.
-
The focal point of these inspections will revolve around the curtain assembly as these are the parts experiencing the highest amount of stress during operation. They are also the most susceptible to damage after an impact.
-
-
-
This guide will walk through how to replace damaged, missing, or worn curtain tags and rivets.
-
The curtains tags are responsible for transmitting torque from the motor, through the curtain, to push/pull the door up and down.
-
They also function to keep the curtain retained in the vertical tracks both statically, and dynamically.
-
Excessively worn or missing curtain tags can effect the operation of the door, and can result in downtime or costly repairs if not properly addressed.
-
These curtain tags are held in place with Aluminum rivets. These rivets are designed to be the weakest link so that a failure only occurs at the rivet, and prevents damage to the curtain itself. The result is a longer lasting curtain that is less susceptible to costly damage and repairs.
-
Most of the wear will occur on the back of the curtain.
-
-
-
Always replace both curtain tags AND the rivet at the same time.
-
Goffs will provide a few sets of replacement tags and rivets with new door orders, and also offers stand-alone maintenance/repair kits (PN #36217) which will include all the parts necessary to maintain and repair your door curtain.
-
A battery operated rivet gun will make this process fast and easy.
-
-
Rivets will ALWAYS be installed from the backside of the curtain.
-
-
-
TURN OFF POWER TO THE DOOR SO IT CANNOT RUN WHILE YOU ARE WORKING ON IT!
-
Because we have an absolute encoder, we will not need to reset the limits upon powering up again.
-
-
-
From the middle of the door, lightly push the curtain so that it comes out of the tracks on both sides.
-
It is critical that both bottom corners of the curtain come out of the tracks during this procedure. It ensures a smooth refeed with the least amount of resistance as the curtain feeds back into the tracks at the top of the opening.
-
It may be helpful to back out the track retention screws to lessen the amount of force required to knock the curtain out.
-
-
-
If the curtain tag assembly has not fallen completely out, you will first need to remove the existing rivet and curtain tag pair in question. You may need to drill out the head of the rivet on the backside of the curtain using a 1/8in drill bit.
-
Grab (2) curtain tags and (1) Rivet.
-
Place one curtain tag onto the rivet and stage it in the hole in the plastic edge material (on the curtain).
-
Make sure the rivet is installed from the backside of the curtain.
-
-
-
Place your rivet gun/tool onto the rivet
-
Install the curtain tag onto the rivet from the opposite (front) side of the curtain.
-
Press the assembly together firmly.
-
Press and hold the trigger on the rivet tool until the rivet is crimped and the rivet mandrel is cut off.
-
Replace any/all necessary curtain tag/rivet assemblies.
-
Once the door is powered up again, place the door in manual mode from the operator screen, and run the door up manually to reset the curtain in the tracks.
